David's thoughts on the 'kissing' survey [02-Aug-2006] | | I am involved with children's work (aged 9-14), and we have recently discussed the issue of protection for adults as well as children. My response is this: Unfortunately this subject is becoming fretful for many decent people; inside and outside of the church! The modern culture in our country, is generally broodingly satisfied in bringing anyone or anything down at any opportunity, particularly on the matter of children. Being Christians, it is our duty to steward ourselves and each other carefully. If we follow procedure and monitor accordingly, we should be able to move on and serve the children happily. My answer to Ishmael as with others is this: if children respond with affection from their enjoyment or appreciation, then hinder not. Why? They have initiated it, and expect for it to be received; it is a natural innocent response for some children to something good! However, it is best for us to not add to this by kissing etc., as it makes the contact personal (regardless of intent), and only fuels the opportunist parent or observer to react negatively. Nevertheless, it is our duty to look out for each other and pray for accordingly, in order for God's work to thrive and grow, and enable people at the forefront to continue to flourish, in contributing to a balanced and spiritually healthy next generation.
