Giff's belated thoughts on 'communion'. [03-Aug-2006] | | ok ish l8r than i hoped - internet connection gubbed! but some thoughts on communion for children. I personally feel that there is no age restriction! As long as the child understands what is happening and that he/she loves the Lord.
I have led young people as young as 5/6 in communion, pitching it in an age appropriate manner and helping the young people remember what Jesus has done for them.
These times have been done creatively in a family time with the whole congregation right through to a handful of us sitting on a floor getting our hearts right and breaking bread. In fact some of these times have been more memorable to the kids than a slick programme :) One instance is when an 11 year old felt lighter and cleaner after one of these times together. I have also found these 'intimate times' special as the younger ones want to do business with the Lord b4 breaking bread! More proof that they do not jump on the bandwagon to follow the rest is when after a quiet time b4 breaking the bread a 6 yo chooses not too take part in the time as it would not be right!!!! How many adults do this I wonder???
I must admit that after several years of leading our young people before having to step down, the only time they were involved with the adults was during communion and i have noticed that they no longer come through to take part in the breaking of bread. This does disappoint me but i pray that this changes as i would hate to see the fellowship devoid of teenagers in a few years time and thats another issue in it's own! Well enough rambling, Bless u m8
