 Ian is going back 37 years...and earlier! [02-Nov-2009] | | Dear Ian
I have often sung hymns in Church which were written by you. Whenever I see you named as the author of one of the hymns I wonder whether I may have gone to the same school as you. I notice from your website that you are 2 or 3 years older than me. In 1962, when I was aged 9, I went to Brocksford Hall School in Derbyshire. I then went to Trent College in Long Eaton at aged 13. I feel sure that there was an Ian Smale at Brocksford Hall around the time I was there but whether it was yourself or someone by the same name I am unsure.
Around the year 1973, when I was working at John Lewis in Oxford Street, London I seem to remember helping to organise 'Ismael and Andy' to come and play a concert for members of the staff (several of us had set up a young Christian fellowship for members of staff). Unfortunately I don't think many people actually attended which was a shame.
I now live in Buckinghamshire and attend St Marys Church in Maidenhead.
I shall look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes
Ian Roxburgh
PS I apologise if it wasn't Ismael and Andy who were the singers that came to play at John Lewis. It is a long time ago and my memory isn't always very good!!!
Ish's reply.
Hi Ian.
Great to hear from you.
I'm afraid I was not at your school, I attended a good old secondary modern in Littlehampton. However I was the Ishmael of Ishmael and Andy who came to John Lewis's in 1973.
37 years is a long time to remember back but I know it must have been a fairly good gig as I tend to only remember the really bad ones!
