October review

I’ve brought my October review forward a bit as the rest of the month looks to be reasonably quiet… except for a fun wedding which I am sure won’t be!

It has been a mixed month with both very happy and very sad times.

I have missed my travelling gigs as they have been non-existent throughout the month, but thankfully they pick up again in November with visits to Haslebury Plunknett for a ‘When the road is rough & Steep testimony concert’ on November 23rd and Dorchester Elim for a special all age celebration on November 24th. Can’t wait!

But I have not let the tips of my fingers get soft because I’ve still been strumming away at the Cathedral Family Services and of course playing the twice a week new Scripture Songs.

And I must say thank you because between 600 and 1000 of you are now watching these little simple songs and sending in encouraging comments every Wednesday and Sunday. I’ll keep writing and filming these until people stop watching them…or I run out of inspiration or Bible verses!

As most of you know, I felt great sadness at losing my very close friend Steve, but the ‘Choosing Joy’ celebration of Steve’s life was absolutely brilliant.

But thankfully there have also been some very happy times.

Irene and I had a lovely few days’ break in a caravan by the sea and I enjoyed doing a bit of fishing (you should have seen the one that got away) and we both enjoyed plenty of relaxation.

The Cathedral is doing quite well with new Dean Edward and a massive planet Mars balloon arriving, and it’s brilliant that the weekly family service (which I really enjoy singing and preaching at once a month) is now averaging 80 adults and children.

I’m also back to feeling awake enough to get out of bed and go to the 8am Cathedral communion service a few mornings a week. Great way to start a day.

Wednesday is usually my hospital volunteer chaplaincy visiting morning. I have my own ward to visit and enjoy going from bed to bed chatting and if requested praying for the patients. What I like is nearly every patient is smiling when I leave them. And hopefully that is not out of relief… because I am leaving them!

.

Healthwise, I’ve had my old persons flu and covid jabs which seemed quite sensible as covid is still very much doing it’s rounds in the hospital. I’m feeling good and have plenty of energy which I need to burn off.

That is why having a quiet month not burning it off with gigs is not all bad news as it has given me more time to exercise and walk 6 miles round 18 holes with a few sticks in a bag more times in the week.

And no Mr Twain, it is not a good walk ruined, because I play with lots of none church chums, so it gives me around 4 hours to chat, discuss and of course laugh with them and having paid their fees…they can’t walk away!

Well, that will do for this month. Thank you, my friends, for your continued prayer and encouragement.

Lots of love to you all…Have a great November.
