I really would value your prayers next Tuesday morning please..
Although these days I would be classed far more ancient than modern (in every sense) I praise God that He has still allowed me good health, bags of energy and it seems that I can still be a little over active in some peoples presence!
Anyway, a Church must have heard that I am fit and raring to go because…this adventurous church (at the recommendation of their children’s leader) have invited me next Tuesday at 10am to join them and minister at their summer camp. Wow!
They also must have realised that I still have a bit of voice, guitar strumming ability and hopefully anointing because I have not been asked to do an all age service (no sweat) or even preach (even less sweat) they have asked me to do something very few musicians my age get invited to do…open up their children’s summer camp by doing an hours praise party for the churches 3 to 11 year olds. This is something I have not done for many years. And yes, in this heat…. plenty of sweat)!
I must admit I’ve set myself a rather exhausting set of lively action songs that I will need to teach, (see below) but I think I have included some of my most suitable songs to cover all ages present.
Having done loads of summer camps in the past I am also aware that if the sun is shining in most venues words on the screen will become invisible (even to those who can read) so I have deliberately chosen songs that can be enjoyed without seeing any words on screens.
I am also trying something different to keep things moving quickly which I think with such a vast range of ages is important.
I am not going to do a ‘sit down’ Bible talk but before each song I’ve written a short one-line prayer linked to the song which I will get a child to read first then we will all say it together after which I may add just a very few words if I think I need to.
So, feeling a little apprehensive and rusty but realising (as always) I must rely upon God’s help and your prayers I am also very very excited.
I love writing songs that I know children will enjoy but even better singing them with them.
Here are the songs I have in mind to sing but of course have a few extra’s in reserve just in case as I never know what to expect until I see who is there and how they are responding.
The welcome song
Though the grass may wither
I know Jesus loves me
The Statue Song
Be merciful to me O God
I will click my fingers
Wolfy wolfy
Jesus. He is Lord
I will bend down and touch my knees
Quick on your feet again
Bigger Barn
Praise and glory to the name of Jesus
We are one we are family together
Father God I Wonder
